NRA Rifle

DeSoto Rifle and Pistol Club is proud to offer NRA sanctioned Highpower and Midrange Prone / F-Class rifle matches and Club level matches annually.  Matches are open to all shooters, though certain matches may have additional requirements such as state association membership or NRA membership.  These special requirements will be noted for each match where they apply.

General Information

  • Dates:  Please check the Calendar for the up to date schedule of NRA rifle matches.
  • Time:  Check-in times are usually around 7:30 AM with shooting typically starting by 8:30 AM.
  • Changes:  If the weather looks questionable, shooters are advised to monitor our website and our Facebook page after 7:15 AM for updates.
  • Cost:  Varies, please see specific cost and registration notes for each match.
  • Ammunition:  See round counts below (and bring extra in case of malfunction).
  • Match size:  Varies
  • Pit Service:  Shooters will pull targets.
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Governing Rules:  Current NRA rules will govern the match. We recommend that new shooters read the rule books in advance of competing. The NRA rule books are also on the NRA website.
  • Restrictions:
    • Open to any individual, including non-members of DeSoto Rifle & Pistol Club.
    • NRA Membership is not required, but is recommended (required for official score submission).
    • Ear protection is required for all shooters, eye protection is strongly recommended for adults and required for juniors.

Equipment

  • A safe and operable rifle that meets the NRA match requirements.
  • Adequate ammunition for your rifle (bring extra in case of malfunction).
  • Magazines as required.
  • Spotting scope (recommended)
  • Shooters jacket, gloves, blanket as you desire (recommended).
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • An appropriate bag to carry your firearms, magazines, ammunition and other gear.

Course Of Fire

The typical courses of fire are as follows.  The course of fire may change from match to match.

Highpower (88 rounds total, 80 rounds scored)

  • String 1:  At 200 yards, 20 rounds, slow fire, standing (2 sighters before)
  • String 2:  At 200 yards, 10 rounds, rapid fire, sitting (2 sighters before)
  • String 3:  At 200 yards, 10 rounds, rapid fire, sitting (no sighters)
  • String 4:  At 300 yards, 10 rounds, rapid fire, prone (2 sighters before)
  • String 5:  At 300 yards, 10 rounds, rapid fire, prone (no sighters)
  • String 6:  At 600 yards, 20 rounds, slow fire, prone (2 sighters before)

Midrange Prone and F-Class (69 rounds total, 60 rounds scored)

  • String 1:  At 600 yards, 20 rounds, slow fire, prone (5 sighters before)
  • String 2:  At 600 yards, 20 rounds, slow fire, prone (2 sighters before)
  • String 3:  At 600 yards, 20 rounds, slow fire, prone (2 sighters before)
